Approved Medications While Donating Milk

During the screening process you will be asked about medications you are currently taking. You may be able to donate while taking the following:

  • Vitamins, minerals, iron, fish oil, omega-3-fatty acids, probiotics
  • Certain antihistamines 
  • Birth control (progestin-only)
  • Stool softeners
  • Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen
  • Insulin
  • Inhaled medications for asthma, colds, or allergies
  • Most antacids 
  • Thyroid replacement medicine
  • Selected antidepressants 
  • Allergy shots
  • Selected human immune globulin products 

If you take medications temporarily (i.e., antibiotics, antivirals, etc.) and need information about the wait time to start donating again or if you have questions about whether a certain medication is safe for milk donation, please call 763-546-8051.
