My Story as a (3-time) Donor

by Kirsten Moser

My name is Kirsten Moser, and originally from Bemidji, MN, I now live in Morris, MN, with my husband and three children. I started donating breastmilk to the Minnesota Milk Bank for Babies when I had my first baby almost five years ago. At the time, I utilized Angel Flight to fly into the small airstrip in Morris. The volunteer pilot flew in, picked up my milk donation and then flew it down to the Twin Cities. That was such a neat experience! I then donated with my second baby two and a half years ago, and I am now donating with my third baby.

As Milk Donation Depots have increased in the state, there are a few located along the route we take to head back up to my hometown in Bemidji, so I drop off my milk as I pass through those towns. My heart aches for those babies who have already been through so much at such a little age. I believe that every baby deserves the best possible start in life by getting the essential nutrients and immune support that the biological gift of breastmilk provides. If putting in just a tiny bit of extra effort on my part will help those sweet babies, that’s what I’m going to do! Knowing that I can help nourish and support other babies’ growth during some of the most critical stages of life is incredibly meaningful to me. Donating breastmilk is a simple way for me to share a resource that I have been absolutely blessed with and make a positive difference for babies in need.
